Imizi Yobaba EP[/b] is a Maskandi project from South African artist Slomo Sabantu, combining traditional Zulu musical foundations with contemporary production and collaborative performances. Although some music-download sites describe the project as an album, its official music-store classification is an EP.

The title “Imizi Yobaba” translates roughly to “My Father’s Homes/Homesteads,” giving the project a strong connection to family, heritage, ancestry, and the importance of home within Zulu culture. These themes fit naturally within Maskandi, where personal experiences and cultural storytelling frequently form the heart of the music.

Across the project, Slomo Sabantu uses expressive vocals, traditional rhythmic influences, guitar-led Maskandi elements, and storytelling to explore relationships, community, personal experiences, and cultural identity.

The project includes collaborations with MaGumede Wenu, Ncwasimende, Two Ocean, Shenge Wasehlalankosi, Mjolisi, and KaMaphanga, bringing several voices from the contemporary Maskandi scene into the project.

The five tracks are “Baxoxa Izindaba,” “Imizi Yobaba” featuring MaGumede Wenu & Ncwasimende, “Ngyazondlela Futhi Ngikhulisele” featuring Two Ocean, “Ngeke Balunge” featuring Shenge Wasehlalankosi, and “Imanz’yami” featuring Mjolisi & KaMaphanga.

Imizi Yobaba EP strengthens Slomo Sabantu’s place in contemporary Maskandi by bringing together traditional storytelling, family and cultural themes, and collaborations with other Maskandi voices in a compact five-track project.
