Ubumina EP is an upcoming Maskandi project from South African artist Mzukulu, opening a new chapter in his musical journey. The project has now been publicly teased, with South African music publication SlikourOnLife reporting that Mzukulu is preparing Ubumina as his next EP.
The title “Ubumina” relates to selfhood or one's sense of identity, giving the project a deeply personal direction. It fits naturally with Mzukulu's storytelling-driven approach to Maskandi, where personal experiences, relationships, culture and everyday life frequently form the foundation of his songwriting.
Musically, Ubumina is expected to remain rooted in Maskandi, the genre that has defined Mzukulu's catalogue. His 2026 activity has already included “UMZUZWANA” and “Selfish,” with Apple Music listing Selfish as a 24 July 2026 release.
The EP also follows Mzukulu's major Ng'funa Intozami era. His 2026 album tour included a sold-out Johannesburg performance at Carnival City's Big Top Arena on 13 June, where the show was specifically presented as a celebration of Maskandi, live musicianship and storytelling.
Ubumina EP therefore looks set to continue Mzukulu's evolution as one of contemporary Maskandi's prominent storytellers, combining cultural identity and personal expression with the guitar-driven traditions of the genre.
Important: this one appears to be upcoming rather than already released. I couldn't verify a confirmed release date or track count yet, so I'm leaving those details out instead of guessing.
